ES Employment Consultant
Interview with Sophie - APM ES Employment Consultant

APM: What is it about the role that you really enjoy?
Sophie: The fact that I get to work with people and work with them on a long term basis and be able to form relationships with them is something that I really enjoy and take seriously. I love the challenge of having to balance so many different cases plus reports. I also enjoyed the steep learning curve that came with the job for myself as I had never worked in employment services before. Basically there is nothing better than having someone sit down opposite you and thank you for changing their life which is what I try to remind myself that I am doing everyday, corny as it sounds!

APM: What transferable skills are required to perform well in the role?
Sophie: I think strong marketing skills are a must as we deal with a lot of ‘cold' leads. Strong time-management skills and the ability to be flexible are also really important and I think that being able to work efficiently in a team is incredibly important at APM. Most of all I think you need fabulous people skills. Being able to find something in common with anyone is a must in order to gain the respect and trust of both your clients and employers and create placements that stick and relationships that will last for future clients to take advantage of!

APM: Why APM? Why this role?
Sophie: I originally heard about APM through a friend who works at a different branch. As soon as she started talking about her new job and what it involved I wanted to work here as well. I had always wanted a job that took advantage of my sales and marketing skills without making me feel like a ‘sleazy salesman' . I wanted the excitement and fast-paced environment of having to meet KPI's (Key Performance Indicators) and targets but I also wanted to be able to actually help people through my work and be proud of what I was doing at the end of the day. Being a Employment Consultant with APM meets all the above criteria!

APM: Why should someone consider a career as an ES Employment Consultant with APM?
Sophie: I can only speak of my own personal experience but I have never been employed in a role that has taught me such an incredible amount in such a relatively short time. I work with an amazing team who have all become my close friends, I have always had all the support that I could possibly need and I know that at any given moment I could probably call up anyone in the APM community and ask them for help without any judgment. I thoroughly enjoy the challenge and responsibility that comes from managing my own caseload and at the end of the day I have never been so proud of myself or as happy in my work choices as I am at APM working with my wonderful caseload! I would definitely recommend it!

Due to the nature of the industry, there is always so much to learn, and so many unique situations that occur on a daily basis that you will never be bored.
