COTTAGE BY THE SEA
APM is proud of its national fundraising project - Cottage by the Sea - to raise money to sponsor 2 holiday camps for disadvantaged children.
Since 1890, Cottage by the Sea located in Queenscliff (VIC) cares for diverse groups of children with family difficulties, including: domestic violence, emotional trauma, foster carer fatigue, sudden death or departure of a parent, social/economic disadvantage, cultural and refugee difficulties, etc. The Cottage offers a seaside holiday experience and aims to foster positive self-esteem, socialization skills, community spirit and sporting interests.
The Cottage works very closely with schools, community counsellors and foster care agencies to provide a service to over 1000 children every year. Cottage by the Sea receives no government funding and so relies solely on donations and community support.
Cottage by the Sea is the only holiday some children ever have!
As APM is devoted towards the Australian community and to express its commitment, Cottage by the Sea is the perfect organisation to be partner with.
APM Indigenous Boys Camp - May 2010
APM donated $13,500 to Cottage by the Sea on March 26th to fund the opportunity for 15 disadvantaged Indigenous boys from Palm Island and the Grampians to participate in a 5-day holiday camp. APM proudly presented their donation to Catherine Freeman, Olympic Gold-medallist and Cottage by the Sea's Patron, during a luncheon held in Melbourne. The money was raised over 5 months via contributions from APM staff members, corporate financial support, other donations from suppliers and various fund raising activities.
Considering that school attendance is sometimes a big issue for Indigenous children, the offer of a Camp at the Cottage is often used in a very positive way by community and Indigenous Elders to encourage positive behavioural change.
APM Regional NSW Camp - September 2010
APM also sponsored another Cottage by the Sea camp in September 2010 for primary school children in need in the regional area of New South Wales.
