Workplace Rehabilitation

APM can provide individual assessments or services, rather than coordinate a full rehabilitation program:

Functional Assessment

An APM Functional Assessment is a standardised assessment that objectively measures an individual's current functional abilities and limitations, with particular focus on their ability to meet current or proposed job demands.

The results of this assessment assist in determining suitable job options or recommendations to help with planning a return to work after an injury, either to the worker's previous occupation or a new occupation.

APM's Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists use the Physical Work Performance Evaluation (PWPE) which comprises tasks that evaluate strength, position tolerance, mobility and endurance.

Functional Job Match

An APM Functional Job Match provides a match between the individual's physical capacity and the basic requirements of a job into an employee selection process.

It involves a combination of a Worksite Assessment and a Functional Assessment. The screen activity then reflects on the employer's 'Duty of Care' and minimises the risk of employment injury (or re-injury) at the workplace.

APM's Occupational Therapists, Exercise Physiologists or Physiotherapists will then ensure that the job seeker will perform work in a safe environment tailored to the job seeker's ability.

Workplace Assessment

An APM Workplace Assessment consists of a visit of the workplace to assess the physical demands of the usual work performed by an employee. Alternative duties can also be assessed and recommendations made regarding the suitability of those duties.

This assessment can be used to assist the medical practitioner to select duties that will be safe for the individual to perform, and expedite the return to work process.

APM's Occupational Therapists, Exercise Physiologists or Physiotherapists are able to provide these recommendations with respect to task modification/re-organisation or equipment needs.

Activity of Daily Living Assessment (ADL)

An APM Activities of Daily Living Assessment (ADL) analyses an individual's functional abilities in the areas of self care and general activities both in and around the home.

An APM Occupational Therapist will determine the level of assistance required to enable a person to live independently at home and will also provide recommendations on equipment and home modifications.

Ergonomic Assessment

An APM Ergonomic Assessment investigates the individual's interaction with the objects they use within the work environment that may be impacting on their health, comfort and productivity. This interaction can be affected by individual anatomy, psychology and other human factors. The assessment may be completed for any workstation setup.

In each case, the focus is on preventing an injury from occuring or minimising its impact once it has occured and enabling the individual to perform their work duties safely.

APM Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists are skilled at exploring ways to modify the work environment to make it safer and easier for the injured worker to manage.

Work Conditioning

APM Work Conditioning is a program aimed at assisting an individual to improve their physical ability to perform their work in a safe environment. It includes a range of exercises and activities that simulate the work environment.

Developed by a Physiotherapist, an Exercise Physiologist or an Occupational Therapist, the Work Conditioning program will help to "bridge the gap" between the injured individual's current physical capacity for work and the full physical demands of the job.
