Through the Employment Assistance Fund, employers may be able to access funding to allow for workplace modifications that will assist a person with a disability to enhance the safety and productivity of the tasks performed in their job. These modifications can include building/vehicle modifications, purchase of new equipment or computer software and Auslan interpreting services.

For an employee with a disability to be eligible for this service, they must:

• have an ongoing disability that has lasted, or is likely to last for 2 years or more, and
• have a disability that results in a limitation, restriction or impairment effecting their everyday activities that requires a work-related adjustment, and
• be an Australian citizen or permanent resident, and
• not meet any of the excluding criteria such as having received the requested modifications funding through another source such as a worker’s compensation claim.

APM assessors will visit the worksite and conduct a thorough assessment of the employee in their work environment in order to recommend the most appropriate modifications and services required to assist both the employee and employer in creating a sustainable workplace.
