Advanced Personnel Management (APM's) is proud to have launched its Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) in May 2011. This plan formalises APM's commitment and contribution towards creating positive and lasting changes in the life circumstances of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. In particular, as the largest private sector provider of Australian Government funded Disability Employment Services, we are able to impact on the employment, social and health outcomes of APM's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, employees, their families and the communities in which serve.

APM's RAP includes a series of specific measurable actions to be undertaken across APM, focusing on community engagement, APM's organisational environment, employment and sharing its extensive knowledge and experience.

By creating opportunities, showing respect and developing relationships, APM can play a part in wiping out the unacceptable gap that exists between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider Australian community.

APM's RAP is an important milestone, but effective implementation and achievement of outcomes will determine its success. All APMers are invited to support and participate in the RAP to continue to build a workplace that values and promotes strong relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non Aboriginal people.

Reconciliation Australia (RA) is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that was established in 2000 by the former Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation. RA are the peak national organisation building and promoting reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians for the wellbeing of the nation. RA is dedicated to closing the unacceptable life expectancy gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous children. One of their key strategies in achieving that ambition is to support and encourage organisations to sign up to their own tailored Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). For more information please visit www.reconciliation.org.au

APM would like to thank APM's RAP Working Group, Reconciliation Australia and our external stakeholders including South West Land Council, Aboriginal Economic Development Officer from Mid West Development Commission, Kurongkurl Katitjin Centre for Indigenous Australian Education and Research at Edith Cowan University for their assistance in the development of APM's RAP.
