Return To Work-New Employer
- Untapped abilities
Shaun, a 32 year old family man had been a scaffolder since leaving school. Treating doctors deemed Shaun medically unfit for duties as a scaffolder following a workplace injury.
A vocational assessment and aptitude test revealed that Shaun possessed great intellectual potential. This result, combined with his excellent interpersonal skills, interests and construction experience resulted in selection of an employment officer as his vocational goal (his second preference was building estimator).
Following a brief work placement as an employment officer, he was employed in this capacity by the host employer who was thrilled with his performance.

- Support reaps results
A 45 year old nursing assistant was referred to APM by her employer who was no longer able to sustain Joan on 'alternative' duties. Joan presented as very angry about the redeployment process and did not want to leave her old employer.
A vocational assessment revealed Joan had transferable, although somewhat outdated, clerical skills. Work as a clerical assistant was identified and medically supported as her redirection goal. Joan's concerns regarding the redeployment process were addressed through effective adjustment counselling. A work placement was located for Joan to gain work experience as a clerical assistant.
Again, the worker was supported through provision of practical skills on how to handle a new work situation. In spite of Joan's earlier apprehensions, she suitably impressed the work placement host who decided to hire her.
