Training
- An eclectic mix

Manual handling training can be most effective when all levels of staff are invited to attend the training. Participants are made aware that their bodies can only tolerate so much use over time before they show signs of strain, especially if they are using poor techniques.

A mixed training group, held recently in the southwest region of Western Australia, comprised of horticultural workers, staff from automotive detailing and residential care workers.

Despite this eclectic mix, the common principles of safe manual handling were highlighted and all staff demonstrated competencies during the training. Evaluation of the training revealed an increased awareness of the risks associated within their particular work areas and methods to overcome these risks.

Such methods included new methods of handling, re-organisation of their work tasks and the purchase of appropriate equipment to minimise the risk of injury.
