Work Conditioning Program
- It is not horse play

Kate sustained internal injuries and a back injury after being kicked by a horse during the course of her duties as a horse trainer. Kate was hospitalised for some time. When her recovery was sufficient for her to address the issue of returning to work, this was managed by her general practitioner.

Kate was working 2 hours per day at work (1 hour in the morning and 1 hour in the afternoon) when her doctor referred her to the work conditioning program, 7 months post injury.

Kate initially attended the program 3 days per week while continuing to attend work 2 days per week. Initially Kate experienced significant back pain, was weak in all muscle groups, had difficulty standing erect and was only able to perform restricted duties at work.

Kate continued attending the program while gradually increasing her hours and duties at work. She was performing work duties prior to attending the program, thus was attending work 5 mornings per week and attending the program 3 mornings per week.

Kate ceased attending the work conditioning program after attending for 3 days per week for 12 weeks. At that time, Kate's abilities matched the job demands but she still needed to increase her work tolerance to enable her to work with 7 - 10 horses per day.

Her limitations at this time were due to issues which required medical intervention. Once these issues were resolved Kate was able to return to her pre-injury status.
