Years of hard work coming to fruition for Mehboob and his family

Mehboob joined APM’s Salisbury office through the jobactive program, located less than an hour north-east of Adelaide, in early 2018.

At the time he had only recently relocated from Afghanistan to Australia, with limited English communication skills.

His Employment Consultant Melissa, with assistance from Employer Account Manager Hafez, helped make Mehboob’s journey one of great personal success and resilience.

One of the first steps the Salisbury team took to get Mehboob off to the best start was enrol him in a Certificate II in Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways.

“This helped to improve his English literacy skills, and it gave him a great, gradual pathway to employment” Melissa said.

APM Salisbury were further able to assist Mehboob by providing further education opportunities, work clothes, White Card Training, Driver’s License and fuel cards.

While searching for jobs, Mehboob expressed to Melissa his interest in locating employment where he could utilise his hand-eye coordination skills. He also wanted a role where he could communicate with others, which would improve his English proficiency.

Mehboob was successful in gaining a diverse range of roles across several different industries which gave him valuable experience.

With the assistance from Employer Account Manager Hafez Mehboob was able to gain employment at an Afghan Supermarket in his local area.

Today, Mehboob has successfully reached his 26-week milestone and has even managed to save a deposit to assist in buying his family’s first home.

Having made a solid start towards long-term employment, Mehboob can be proud of his hard-earned success!
