Skill-building helps Tod get his foot in the (workshop) door

Tod’s dedication to expanding his skills has been the driver for him achieving his goals and improving his quality of life.

Wanting to improve his employability, Tod reached out to his local APM office in Dubbo, located about 5 hours west of Sydney.

Like many job seekers, he was finding it tough to get employers to give him a go.

His Employment Consultant Joel was determined to help Tod shine. Together, they started working on employment skills and interviewing techniques.

These skills were bolstered by the mock interviews organised with Les from Picton Bros. Panelspan.

“Tod has grown so much since starting as a Disability Support Pension volunteer, to where he is now” Joel said.

“He put in great effort in all his learning, especially in the interviews. It’s been amazing to see that pay off for him.”

After months of diligent work by Tod, Joel took the initiative to speak to Les again. Together, they created a role for Tod at Picton Bros.

Through his hard work and excellent attitude, Tod showed Les he could become a valued employee.

As a result, he was offered more than his original benchmark of eight hours a week, increasing his responsibility when cleaning the workshop.

When Joel visits Les, he has nothing but great feedback on Tod: “He’s grown so much since the first mock interview we did together” Les said.

“Tod’s got great confidence now and his bright demeanour makes him a pleasure to have in the workshop.”

Tod's success story was recently featured on the local news.
