William’s employment provides security for the future

William and his Employment Consultant Simone

William wasn’t going to let his spinal disorder to prevent him from working

It can be challenging changing careers after many decades in one industry.

With the right help, it’s not impossible. And William found it.

William had previously worked for forty years as a labourer on Christmas Island.

18 months after arriving in Australia, he was disheartened by being unable to successfully find a job, online or by approaching employers himself.

He approached APM for assistance and was put at ease by his Employment Consultant Simone, in the Perth suburb of Canning Vale.

Even though William has a spinal disorder, along with knee, hand, and back pain, he was very motivated to work.

Taking into consideration his multiple disabilities and the type of work he could undertake without it causing him further discomfort, Simone and William decided that traffic management was an area to pursue. So Simone arranged for first aid and traffic management certificates for William.

Thanks to the support he received through APM's Employment Services program, within weeks he secured a position in traffic management!

“William’s resilience is a credit to him, he’s really persevered” Simone said “He’s achieved a great outcome for himself.”

Today, William feels as though he has regained his independence. He has been saving most of his income and contributing extra into his superannuation to provide security for the future.

“I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity, respect, and support both APM and his consultant Simone have, and continue to show me” William said.

William enjoys his weekly post-placement support meetings and is thankful that he chose to come to APM to help him secure a brighter future!
